Homes and apartments with fuel-burning appliances or attached garages are required to have carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. Since carbon monoxide is invisible and odorless, proper detection is essential for safety.

Under the Ontario Fire Code, CO alarms must be installed:

  • In common areas on every floor of an apartment
  • Near sleeping areas
  • On every story of a home

Starting in 2026, Ontario’s updated Fire Code regulation requires carbon monoxide alarms on every floor of a wider range of residential buildings. RONA, through the CHFT Co-op Cost Cutters Program, can help members meet these requirements with compliant and reliable CO alarmscompetitive pricing, and efficient fulfillment. The dedicated RONAPRO support team can make the process easy, so your co-ops are safe and compliant before the deadline.
